Volunteers

Living Lands Agrarian Network offers a weekly volunteer opportunity to any and all members of our community wanting to work alongside farmers and apprentices, be outside, learn seasonal and organic gardening skills, and contribute to a non-profit farming and educational organization dedicated to supporting farmers and gardeners getting started in Nevada County. Every Wednesday our volunteer opportunity cycles among the five existing Living Lands farm sites, giving volunteers the chance to learn from various farmers and farming systems throughout the season, as well as enjoy the community of farmers and interns from all 5 farms spending the morning together. No commitment is needed, every Wednesday is an open workday, and we will always be there. A weekly email will inform those interested in the location and activities for the week. Workdays start between 8-9 and end between 12-1 (to be specified in the email, depending on the heat expected for the day). Please bring plenty of water, a wide-brimmed hat, and a snack (to share if you’d like as well, but not necessary :)

    Hi!

I would love to volunteer! I love the earth and community but have no experience with farming! ( I love to grow at my home though small amounts!) I have a son who will be 4 in May, do you have any thing i can do to help with my son? Which days and how long to you have for volunteers?

Thanks for your time, i look forward to hearing from you. I am a Grass Valley resident.

    Kate Reuther.

    Hi Susan (Leo and Tim),
I just came to say hello this morning (artist with blue studio doors and two grazing sheep). I am very inspired by what is happening here and hope to be subscribing to food you grow. Please keep me posted for volunteer work to be done. I do try to keep to canvas but love the idea of an hour or two here and there when you can use it. Also, every other weekend my son is with me and perhaps if there is work going on on Saturdays I would walk over with Austin and do it with him on occasion.

Susan will you have a posting when you announce when work is going on and could I just drop in unscheduled? (at this point I can’t commit to more)

I’d be curious too on what you intend to do about gophers. They have pretty much tunneled through my entire garden by the studio and I am more and more replanting in cages etc. (probably only a matter of time before they find you up there….)

    Thanks,
    Jenny

This is perfect! I’m new to this beautiful county and I’m itching for a way to work hard and meet great people in the process. I got a pretty cool network going in Sacramento of sustainable farm minded people, and I miss that community but I know Nevada County is full of opportunities. I can’t wait to get started!

      Hi Heather,
Glad you found us! Hope you can make it to one of our volunteer days or potlucks soon. Next Thursday, Sept. 2nd, the potluck will be at Soil Sisters Farm, Misty Meadows Lane, off of Lake Vera-Purdon Rd (if you hit mandolin way, you have gone a stitch too far). Contact us if you need any more information!
      Blessings,
      Rachel
